Description
For the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, Winds of Change refers to more than the pile of quarters, nickels, and dimes we find in the basket after a typical day of playing on the streets of San Francisco.
Since our last recording, the group has undergone two important changes. The first was the successful completion of our first U.S. tour, and the second, the expansion of our repertoire to include works for keyboard (both harpsichord and piano) and saxophones.
Winds of Change is the San Francisco Saxophone Quartets fourth recording and, like the others, is comprised of music originally written for other instruments. String quartet literature and music from the Baroque era have always been mainstays of the group, so once we added the keyboard, it was a natural choice to include Baroque trio sonatas (precursors of the string quartet) in our repertoire.
Our tenor saxophonist, David Henderson, plays the keyboard.
