Description
The echoes of a fiddle ringing through the mists of the Scottish Highlands travel through time to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Susan Kidney on fiddle and Donna Germano on Celtic harp bring a combination of traditional Scottish melodies and new compositions to celebrate the beauty of two mountain ranges united by a common heritage.
Highland Fling combines Celtic harp and fiddle, as well as guitar and hammered dulcimer, to interpret lively dance tunes and haunting melodies of the Scottish masters. Inspired by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Susan has written tunes named after such local areas as Devil's Courthouse and Graveyard Fields, showing the close relationship between her own Scottish heritage and the music of those who have settled in the Southern Highlands. Donna's Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer provide both a compliment and contrast to the strains of the fiddle in lively dance tunes and beautiful airs alike.
Susan continues her training with modern day fiddle masters such as Courtney Maxwell, Dr. John Turner, Laura Risk, Jerry Holland and Elke Baker. Donna has studied classical pedal harp technique and has attended Celtic harp master classes with Kim Robertson, Sue Richards and Laurie Riley. She has studied hammered dulcimer with Randy Marchany and Wes Chappel.
