Description
Rick Jamison & Copper Canyon is an exciting new Northern California-based band that performs original, contemporary and traditional bluegrass and acoustic music.
The band's debut CD -- "Tales from the Canyon" -- is a collection of original compositions from band members Rick Jamison and Phil Cornish, two songwriters with deep bluegrass roots and a progressive approach to new acoustic music.
Rick Jamison & Copper Canyon offers a winning combination of instrumental virtuosity, impeccable vocal harmonies and well-crafted original songs that is gaining the attention of bluegrass and acoustic music fans alike.
"Bluegrass is intimately linked to tradition, but there's a movement afoot to infuse the medium with new material that reflects modern life while staying within the time honored framework of powerful instrumental work and tight vocals," said Tim Stafford of Blue Highway. "Rick Jamison and Copper Canyon definitely stakes a spot in that movement with this project, a fine all-original set that reflects the group's strengths and its heart to make music that hasn't been heard before."
"Bluegrass has a great heritage of originality, dating back to its founders, and it's clear that Rick Jamison and Copper Canyon are continuing the tradition," said Chris Jones, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader of
Chris Jones and the Night Drivers. "Their debut CD is loaded with great new bluegrass songs that display a broad
emotional and musical range, and Copper Canyon presents tham all with just the right touch and arrangements, showing the band members' obviously strong musicianship while never overshadowing the songs themseleves."
"Simple words somehow seem inadequate to describe the wonderful heartfelt presentation and sheer musical
prowess of Rick Jamison & Copper Canyon with their latest CD project," said George Ireton, a CD reviewer for the
California Bluegrass Association. "It is, in all respects, a 'must have' recording. A tasteful blend of original,
contemporary bluegrass songwriting, inextricably melded to the tradition of the masters of the genre. With their soul
bearing style, and precision instrumentation, mark my words... there is no doubt that Tales from The Canyon will go
down as one of the classics of Bluegrass."
"If you like modern bluegrass, fresh original songs and National-Championship-caliber fiddling, Rick Jamison &
Copper Canyon is a band you must hear," said fiddle legend Paul Shelasky of Lost Highway.
The members of Rick Jamison & Copper Canyon include 2003 National Fiddle Champion Megan Lynch, mandolin player, songwriter and lead vocalist Phil Cornish, banjo and dobro phenomenon Pat Ickes, veteran bluegrass bassist Jerry Logan and bandleader, songwriter and flatpick guitar player Rick Jamison.
