Description
A young singer-songwriter hailing from the North East of England, Jo Stevens is a solo artist who has written and recorded her self titled debut album, which has been produced by award winning producer Steve Levine (of Culture Club and Beach boys fame).
Described as a cross between Chrissie Hynde and a female version of David Gray, Jo's clarity and storytelling lyrics are a refreshing alternative to processed pop.
Jo is a featured artist on multi platinum French artist Benjamin Biolay's top selling album "Negatif" released through Virgin earlier this year.
Last summer Jo performed in front of an audience of thousands at both the Cowes week festival and the Bristol Balloon fiesta. As well as large outdoor festivals Jo has performed at numerous London venues including the Borderline, Kashmir Klub and the Barfly.
Jo is currently on a promotional tour with her album at selected Borders stores nationwide.
Jo won a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (and was offered places at the Royal Academy of Music, R.S.A.M.D, R.N.C.M & The R,C,M) she also won a place at the Lyon Conservatoire then the Paris Conservatoire to study saxophone.
She moved to France to study saxophone and began songwriting on guitar and singing in the Paris clubs resulting in the offer of a recording contract with EMI France. However, not wanting to "sell out" and sing other peoples songs, she decided to return to the U.K. to produce her own music forming the band Aviation Blonde. Jo plays sax, guitar, and sings. Jo then embarked on a solo career which has resulted in the launch of her strong and individual debut album- Jo Stevens.
