Description
Nominated for 3 Nammys (Native American Music Awards). Best Blues/Jazz Recording, Songwriter of the Year, and Best Male Artist! Also currently nominated in the blues category by the ISMA (Indian Summer Music Awards)!
Rockin' the blues with Menominee Indian Reservation soul! "Funky 49" is like attending a 49 (celebration after a powwow), singing a 49 song while a blues band jams the party. Beginning with the sound of native flute, "Black Gold" proceeds to rock and sing out like Santana's guitar crying lost in a rainforest. On the bonus live improv', native flute sets a dreamscape as the band takes you on an 8 minute soul search. "Blues For the River" was debuted opening for Jackson Browne and the Indigo Girls and addresses the fight to keep the sacred Wolf River pure. "Play that Guitar Man" is kind of like Stevie Ray Vaughan jamming on the rez with Greg Allman. Also, be sure to check out "Rez Runner" if you drive one of these. This is one of Wade's best selling CDs.
Wade Fernandez/Wiciwen Apis-Mahwaew is a guitarist, singer/songwriter, native flautist, and singer/drummer from the Menominee Indian Reservation. He has toured and performed from Woodstock '94 to around the globe.

"The album is a journey through the many styles of virtuoso guitar work...a unique style as both a musician and songwriter....may be on the shelves next to Santana or Buddy Guy this summer." Indian Country Today
"All of the things that one would think was lost with the great guitar legends of the early-twentieth century are now alive and touring with Wade Fernandez and his band the Black Wolf Group." The Leader
