Description
The Culver City Dub Collective produced by Franchot Tone and Adam Topol features some of the funkiest dub musicians this side of Kingston, a collective including many of the most talented musicians in LA.
The record came about after Adam Topol decided he wanted to make a record in the dub style reminiscent of the early records produced by King Tubby and Lee "Scratch"Perry.
Adam recruited his buddy Franchot and they booked several months at LA's Crash Test Studios to record the tracks. Having layed down the basic tracks they needed some extra talent to complete the project.
The record features the following ALL-STAR line-up of players:
Adam Topol- Drums and Percussion
Franchot Tone- Guitars
David Ralicke- Trombone
Merlo- Sub-bass
Chris Joyner- Keyboards
David Urquidi- Saxophone and Flute
Wil-Dog- Bass
Eric Avery- Bass
Scott Wardinsky- percussion
Although you probably won't see this collection of extraordinary players on stage at the same time you may catch many of the individuals on tour with the following bands: Jack Johnson, Ozomatli, Beck, Poncho Sanchez, Alannis Morrisette and others.
The album was mixed and mastered by Engineer Extraordinaire, Robert Carranza. Robert is best known for his work with The Beastie Boys and Los Lobos.
Several tunes from this amazing line-up will be featured in the next big surf film from The Malloy's and Jack Johnson entitled "A Broke Down Melody" Look for it in theatres October 2004.
