Description
Described as "blending edgy guitars and great melodies with storytelling lyrics," Tripper continues to establish itself as one of the top independent bands in the modern rock scene.
The Detroit-based band got its start in April 1999 when Frank Buscemi (vocals/guitars/harmonica) and Steve Marvicsin (guitars/vocals) both appearing as solo/acoustic artists performed on the Gentle Friday stage at Central Michigan University. The two began performing together almost immediately, finding similar interests and direction. Ken Thomas (drums/ percussion/ vocals), Aaron Berch (keyboards/ vocals) and Rob Carr (bass/vocals) were later recruited to round out the lineup.
The band has performed on some of the Midwest's most historical and well-known venues, while developing a solid fan base.
Tripper's second album - Yesterday, Friday & Today - was released during June 2002 with tracks from the album featured on commercial radio in Detroit (89X; 96.3 WDVD) three months before recording was completed. Since that time, Tripper songs were downloaded more than 26,000 times, including several chartings on Radio Wazee and MP3.com. Tripper was also named one of the "best unsigned bands" on MP3.com.
During the last half of 2003, Tripper's "Clearly Mistaken" single appeared on the Buzzlighter compilation series put out by Shut Eye Records (Atlanta, GA), and the PBS 106.7 FM Compilation in Melbourne, Australia. During the spring of 2004, the band signed the song on to a compilation record distributed by New Future Records (New York).
During 2004, Tripper worked with several national artists, including Greenwheel, Gin Blossoms and Seven Mary Three.
Tripper is currently writing new material for a possible 2005 release.
Yesterday, Friday & Today is available on Amazon.com, CDBaby.com and Awarestore.com.
Press:
"The second release from the Detroit-based pop/rock quartet, Tripper, entitled "yesterday, friday & today", blends edgy guitars and great melodies with storytelling lyrics. From the word "go" muttered at the beginning of "Clearly Mistaken", the driving opening track to "One Summertime", the closing country-inspired number, the album never loses its grip on the listener. Yesterday, Friday & Today is passionate, driving and fun - and a great addition to any collection."

"Driving down and open road with the top down and the radio blaring. Who better to have on that radio than Tripper. Their music - a blend of energetic pop and acoustic rock - balances nicely between the melodic strummings of the Nadas and the hard-hitting southern sounds of Rooster."

"This is the most professional sounding recording I've heard so far tonight. You'd be surprised how far that will get you (or maybe not). Great vocals, nice arrangement, good sound and mix. This has potential. Thank gawd."
"I love the guitar sound on the opening. Thank God for a great, energetic song (I've been trudging through quite a bit of mediocrity for a while on here now...) Right in the first verse the chord progressions are original, enticing and satisfyingly fantastic. The lyrics are surprising, make perfect use of an extended metaphor and are matched by a soaring, roaring and hopeful melody and production in the chorus. Please God, let this be a hit!! I feel like I've just been bowled over. The mix with the beautifully capo'ed guitars out front is great. One of the best guitar sounds I've heard. The vocals are very sincere and strong at the same time. The overall sound is like a giant fireworks rocket exploding in streamers over a lake at night. Five!"
"Tight, well performed, Replacements influenced pop. Reminds me a bit of songs from the Singles soundtrack, or Gin Blossoms. I especially like the guitar work on this song. The backing vocals are pretty good too. Sounds like a professionally recorded song, whether it was or not. Great ending! It sounds like you put a lot of work into it."

"Tripper has already appeared twice this year at Rubbles and both times, they blew the roof off the place...Tripper puts on an excellent show for the enjoyment of all."

"Absolutely wonderful acoustic based pop rock. I promise you these guys are going to be huge with these hooks and rhythms."
