Description
Alex Smith's attraction to music did not turn to the pursuit of a career until eighth grade when he bought his first guitar and began songwriting.
Self-taught on the guitar, Alex began developing his own sound and writing style. By senior year of high school, Alex had completed many pieces and decided to record them. Working alone with a Roland VS- 880 in his basement, he recorded bass, drums, guitar, piano, and vocals on the ten songs, which became his first independent release, entitled "Walking Up Stairs." The CD was sold around his hometown in the Washington D.C. area and included "More Time," voted the Herndon High School Class of 2000 graduation song.
The summer following the release of "Walking Up Stairs" Alex began his college career at Colorado College, where he met his fianc Emilie Steffen. During this time, Alex's style as a songwriter and musician matured, embracing new sounds and vocal techniques. The songs of Alex's latest work, "Perspective," are the product of the years following "Walking Up Stairs." Most of the tracking, however, was done in the summer of 2003 in his Sublet apartment in Chicago. While working as an intern at Steve Ford Music, Alex wrote several new songs and recorded and finalized the eleven new tracks.
This spring Alex will graduate from Colorado College with a bachelor's degree in both Music and Economics. His future plans are to pursue a career in music as a composer, writer, and producer.
