Description
Wyndfall, a dynamic quartet of flute, guitar/vocal, cello & drums, is folk rock mixed with traditional Celtic melodies, and jazz improvisation mixed with classical interpretations. Laurie's classical training, Tom's jazz experience, and Chris' folk & rock background fuse into a brand new, fresh acoustic sound. Chris Laughery's strong vocals "summon the ancient troubador" and are supported by his solid guitar playing. On flute, pennywhistle & ocarinas, Tom Reese mixes jazz & blues lines into his improvisational palette.
Laurie Haines Reese encourages the cello to move beyond it's traditional roles, providing a strong improvisational foundation for the Celtic, Irish, folk rock, jazz, blues, & bluegrass/newgrass tunes in Wyndfall's repertoire. Drummer Jeff Stabley lays down a driving beat and insinuates the complex rhythms of jazz (well, there's a few times it just drives!) Wyndfall's influences include Jethro Tull, Bela Fleck, David Grisman & New Grass Revival, Turlough O'Carolan, JS Bach, John Coltrane, Miles Davis & Paul Simon.
Wyndfall recently opened for Gaelic Storm (a crowd of over 17,000!), Grey Eye Glances & others. Quickly becoming a popular band at festivals, look for them in your area soon! Let us know if you'd like us to come to a venue near you.
Their love of performance is immediately engaging, while bringing accurate performances of traditional music to audiences east to west, north & south. Wyndfall's musical repertoire ranges from Turlough O'Carolan (the "Bach" of Irish music), to traditional folk tunes & songs, contemporary songs, to our own unique originals. They also include cover tunes like Jethro Tull's Kelpie & Cup of Wonder; Nights in White Satin; Beatles tunes & others!
Tom Reese (Flute, pennywhistle & ocarinas). Tom is an innovator whose versatility knows no bounds. He brings a special blend of styles to his music, from jazz to rock, popular, folk, blues & classical. Tom's warm tone lends a beautiful timbre to every performance. A free-lancer in many venues, from solo artist to jazz musician to educator, he also performs with The Reese Project, MuZette, Susquehanna En semble, & Azure Trio.
Chris Laughery (guitar, vocals, Irish wooden flute). Chris is a well-rounded musician. He has performed at the PA Renaissance Faire for the past several years, first with Cork & now with Harmony Hill. Chris loves performing contemporary Irish and Celtic music, and composing new music, and has dedicated himself to these fields. Chris designs and builds instruments, and is a full-time musician, recording artist & sound engineer. He has several recordings available.
Laurie Haines Reese (cello). Laurie teaches at the college level & has free-lanced and concertized extensively on the east coast, in Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Hawaii, New York and Europe. An accomplished classical musician with a master's degree in cello performance, Laurie loves the variety in performing jazz & folk music. Laurie performs with The Reese Project, MuZette, Azure Trio, Susquehanna Ensemble, and the Dela'Art Trio.
Jeff Stabley (drums). Jeff teaches at the college level and works with special children. He toured Japan playing jazz, and his drumming can be heard on California rocker Greg Kihn's latest CD releases, Mutiny and Horror Show. He is also on currently running radio and television commercials. He also plays for The Curt Sipe Quartet and The Reese Project.
