Description
Bio
Never one to be shy, because what's the point, Jen Shamro has earned a reputation as a sweetly intimidating poetic anti-folk artist and self proclaimed identity crisis. Keeping it minimal without lacking, her live shows have been described as a "chili pepper latte with extra staccato and followed by a spoonful of raw sugar" or "fucking awesome" by Bitch and Animal. Spending the most memorable (or impossible to forget) times in a moving van, Jen has based herself in Tampa, FL or how she lovingly calls it the armpit of amerika.
After receiving personal advice from fellow folkie Dar Williams about how to preserve your sense of humor, it is clear that Jen doesn't just not play by the rules, she has forgotten what they were in the first place. This is why she can go from being billed with hardcore bands to singer/songwriter nights with ease. Free form and unreserved, "her thoughts, music, and original songs will get you to thinking and possibly questioning your own beliefs..." because inevitably there is always another angle, another perspective being overlooked.
Jen Shamro began performing at 16 as a spoken word artist in St. Petersburg, FL and has spent the past five years playing as a solo or duo act from New Orleans to Brooklyn to Tampa and challenging everything anyone has ever tried to tell her about anything.
