Description
Shelley's adult contemporary songs are accompanied by guitar, random percussion, or a cappella. Melodic vocals offer a rare level of intimacy to the listener, and the direction each song takes is unconventional yet accessible. It has been said that Shelley's vocals have a calming effect. When Shelley sings, people stop what they are doing and listen to the original music: melodic and poetic, blending rhythms from around the world, inspiring harmony in living. Shelley plays rhythm guitars, using either an Ovation acoustic/electric or Samick Royale semi hollow-body, and a Djembe drum as well as classic percussion instruments.
Shelley considers herself an "Albuquerque native" (or at least a child of the Southwest)- she can't help the fact that she was actually born near a liberal arts college with historical significance back East where her parents both worked (Kent State University, OH)... then moved to Albuquerque when she was a year old, singing before she could talk. 19 years later, she made the move to Nashville where she continued what had budded in Albuquerque- the culmination of what was a 3-year stint as the lead singer for the locally and regionally-known band, Sub Culture, and the release of their independent album, "Seed Time". From Nashville on, her songwriting bloomed and expanded into the many directions you hear in her music today. Live solo performances took flight during her time in California. Otherwise, Shelley has been involved in music all her life: a LIFETIME MUSICIAN indeed!
Shelley is currently working, writing, and playing live in the Phoenix, AZ area where collaboration and guest appearances are not uncommon... Shelley has been in bands, drummed, and sang back up for various artists.
Shelley released her debut solo album, "Origin of Flight" in 2004.
