Description
Originally from Long Island, New York, Russell Starke is currently an active member of the Philadelphia music community. He has been known for his work with original East Coast bands such as Basstrap and Liquid Fusion, and in addition to his solo career he is a member of the Brian Donahue Band.
Centerlight, released in the Spring of 2003, is Starke's first official solo release. Taking advantage of the artistic freedom allowed by an independent release, the genre-jumping music on Centerlight reflects Russell's avid interest in "any and all music." However, the album maintains a consistent feel, and as a whole is characterized by intelligent and eclectic songwriting, solid musicianship, interesting production techniques, and honest lyrical observations. Part of this consistency stems from the fact that Starke wrote, recorded, produced, and played all of the instruments on the album himself...
Centerlight is packed with just over an hour's worth of music, ranging from quirky tongue-in-cheek pop ("The Grind") to experimental electronic music ("Subway"), instrumental acoustic guitar pieces ("Whiteoak") to emotional electric guitar solos ("Lost For Words"), and dark brooding pieces ("Wolves") to uplifting, roll-down-the-windows rock ("Flight").
