Watermelon Sugar
Contemporary folk/acoustic female duo -- complex harmonies, guitars, mandolin, violin, banjo, that sort of thing. We've also been friends for twenty years...which helps.

Description
Watermelon Sugar is a progressive folk duo rooted in the twenty-year friendship of Hypatia Kingsley and Louise Thompson Bendall. Having met in high school in Pennsylvania, the two began to musically collaborate in 2001 after a close friend asked them to play at her wedding. The band became "a band" in 2003, and although the two members make their homes hundreds of miles apart in Washington, DC and North Carolina, they manage to get the most out of the creative process together in sometimes frenzied gig and recording sessions. Their voices, guitars, banjo, violin and mandolin blend to create unique original music reminiscent of the Be Good Tanyas, Dixie Chicks and Indigo Girls.
Their first CD release, "Sample" was originally a demo that Hypatia kept adding to and re-engineering and adding to until Louise said stop. Watermelon Sugar plays house concerts, coffee houses and festivals from NC to DC and beyond.
