About Emme Kemp
A former 3-year-old prodigy who grew up with the good time gospel and blues of Chicago, Emme recorded with the ragtime piano man Eubie Blake. Prior to her move to New York, Ms. Kemp lived in California and coached with the eminent pianist Egon Petri. Her Jazz anthology goes from classic to modern. She has appeared on numerous college campuses. Her lectures, poetry and writings, form a significant overview on popular culture.
In Woody Allen's film "Sweet And Low Down," Emme is shown in the Chicago jam session scenes with Sean Penn. Emme Kemp "live" lays down the rhythm from festivals in Martinique, Italy's Umbria, The East Coast Jazz Festival, Monte Carlo's Sporting Club, and Lincoln Center; the 92nd Street Y to the SCHOMBURG Center.
"Emme Kemp's talents seem endless. She plays terrific piano, she sings her own highly original songs, and she is a knock em dead performer.Hear her,see her, you'll be glad you did." - Dick Hyman
"A great artist,an all round musician, singer, composer:and she is really wonderful."- Randy Weston
"A beautiful lady steeped in the wonderful tradion of our music-Jazz"-Barry Harris
"Her novel treatment of "God Bless the Child" transforms Billie Holidays's lament into a rocking, foot-tapping challenge to triumph over the odds, and in her hands, the evergreen "My Shining Hour" is rejuvenated with a Viagra-like injection of gospel funk."-Phyl Garland
