Description
"Cynthia's voice is like rain in the summer. Effortless, refreshing, and life-sustaining."
-- Narciso Lobo, Chicago producer
"jazz with a coffee-shop feel...exudes originality."
- Daily Princetonian
Invoking the vocal agility of Ella Fitzgerald and the passionate delivery of Jeff Buckley, acoustic jazz folk singer/songwriter Cynthia Lin draws you in with the release of her debut EP Blue and Borderlined. From the Martin Luther King Day Jazz Celebration in her hometown of Washington, DC, to the Chicago Cultural Center in Chicago, to a CD release concert at the legendary BB Kings Blues Club in New York City, Cynthia has already amassed fans from around the world. A commanding stage performer with significant theatre and film credits, Cynthia has supported major acts including Vienna Teng, Doria Roberts, and Kevin So.
Cynthia's music blends the simplicity of folk with the freedom and variety of jazz. "Classical training is great for technique," she says of her vocal background, "but jazz and folk music are all about expression and interpretation, and that's what I think defines a true artist." Her "well-crafted tunes" recall the solid songwriting of the big band standards, while her guitar style combines a bevy of funky chords with the originality and picking style of her folk influences including Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin. Cynthia is currently gigging steadily, gaining radio play, writing new songs, and planning to release her next album in early 2006.
