Description
Built in late 2001 around songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Pascal Hallibert, Templo Diez is a cosmopolitan 5-piece based in the Netherlands with members from Italy, France, Netherlands and Venezuela.
Oozing a dark and venomous musical brew mixing country-noir, post-rock and (very) troubled pop, Templo Diez has been described by the French magazine Magic as the perfect crossing between Sparklehorse and Spiritualized, pledging a self-confessed allegiance to the darker hours of the Velvet Underground as well as influences picked up in litterature (Bukowski, Fante,...). Ranging from minimalistic production to string-based arrangements, often playing with noise and sound manipulation, each track gets its own atmosphere, telling its own story.
Released in October 2003 on Intercontinental Records (F) and Muze Records (Benelux), the debut CD "Hoboken" received great reviews from the Dutch, Belgian and French music press (les Inrockuptibles, Magic, Oor, Live XS, Rif-Raf,...). "Hoboken" has been airplayed in the Netherlands (namely "Club Lek" on 3voor12 and VPRO's de Avonden), Belgium (Studio Brussels, Radio 1's Cucamonga) and on diverse USA and Canadian college radios.
Templo Diez performed at South By South West 2003 in Austin, USA (followed by several dates in Texas), at the Motel Mozaique festival in Rotterdam, NL, at Binnenach 2005 in Den Haag, NL, and at In the City Unsigned 2003 in Manchester, UK. Invited for NXNE 2004 in Toronto, Canada, the band toured Midwest USA and Canada, mixing live dates in Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa... and live sessions on US and Canadian college radios. This year, invited for the second time in a row by NXNE in Toronto, they added 4 dates in NYC (Knitting Factory, Sin-e, Arlene's Grocery and Lion's Den), plus extra dates in Philadelphia and Richmond, VA. In september, they performed at CMJ Music Marathon 2005 along with additional shows in NYC and Providence, RI.
Pascal is also active in different side-projects and as a producer (ranging from alternative country to electro). As a singer/songwriter (code name: White Sands), he reached the 2001 and 2004 finals of the Grote Prijs van Nederland (Dutch national musical contest).
The core line-up of Templo Diez consists in Paolo Panza (I, drums), Leejon Verhaeg (NL, guitar), Pascal Hallibert (F, vox, guitar, keys) and Gloribel Hern ndez (VEN, keys, bass), with recently added violin player Saskia vd Giessen (NL).
