Description
Throughout her ten years in the Seattle music scene, Carrie Clark has simply been known as, well, Carrie Clark. Even with her band in tow, she was always, simply Carrie Clark. If you think about it, it sounds lonesome. So Clark has decided to share the lonesomeness with band mates Dayna Smith on bass and Greg Fulton on guitar, by dubbing them The Lonesome Lovers. Hopefully, everyone will be happier now. John Ginn - Eugene Weekly
"The band Carrie Clark And The Lonesome Lovers has an album titled Seems So Civilized and its vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist Clark and her players run the gamut of chanteuse pop from stately almost-gospel like "I Saw You (Hovering)" to ribald sexy romps such as "Just For Tonight." These would be great songs to hear on a jukebox in a David Lynch film just before an FBI agent comes in to investigate the murder of a torch singer." Chris Estey - three imaginary girls astropop
"Carrie Clark has created, with her superb band and friends, a collection that portrays what she is up to, what she is capable of, and why she is one of the most creative artists working today in the Northwest. Truly, this completely fulfills the promise found in her first and second CDs. It is impossible to categorize, though she seems inclined to stress its country roots. To my ears, it goes well beyond any classification, ascending to a rich and varied sound all its own." Bill Fisher - Victory Review
Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers, joined forces with Toronto Producer, Darryl Neudorf (Neko Case, Kinnie Starr, The Sadies, The New Pornographers) for her new CD and third independent release. Seems So Civilized is musical juxtaposition of strength and fragility winding through an Americana set combining country, blues and cabaret music. With 10 songs penned by Clark, 1 penned by Clark and the Lonesome Lovers and a cover of Nick Drakes song Saturday Sun, Seems So Civilized is a true reflection in the growth Carrie has made as a songwriter and musician since her first CD, Release the Butterfly.
Carrie has been a fixture in Seattle's music scene for the last ten years. With the addition of her band mates, Dayna Smith on bass, Greg Fulton on guitar and most recently, Daniel Hunt on drums and percussion, Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers perform regularly along the west coast and tour nationally on an annual basis. Their live shows have been described as captivating and engaging by fans and media alike. Carries winsome voice travels from power to tenderness in one breath while charming audiences with songs about one night stands, love lust divas and dark lullabies. They have performed in venues such as Seattles Showbox, and Tractor Tavern as well as stages in San Francisco, Austin, Albuquerque, Nashville, and Phoenix sharing the stage with bands such as Two Loons for Tea, Jared Clifton (Radio Nationals), Laura Veirs, David Garza, Halou, and Al Stewart (Year of the Cat).
Oregon grown and brought up on Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Crystal Gayle records, Carrie is self taught on piano and guitar. Her self taught nature towards songwriting complemented by Fulton and Smiths scholastic musical backgrounds has created a musical experience weaving dark melody lines and driving country rhythms. I am a generally happy person, but songwriting seems to bring out the dark side of my emotions. You have to have both, so in order to stay happy, the darker side of me is given to the songs I write. Seems So Civilized, is Carries third independent release. Her two previous CDs, Release the Butterfly and Reverie, are still receiving national and international radio play including feature interviews on NPR radio programs and highlights in local and national media publications.
Who are the Lonesome Lovers? The first Lonesome Lover to join up with Carrie was bassist and backing vocalist, Dayna Smith. When not holding down the lonesome low-end, she is busy in the NW music scene performing and recording with her own project, The Fast Pretty Way. She also performs with psychedelic country band, Half Light and tripno-soul act, Chewy.
The next Lonesome Lover to join in was guitarist (or anything stringed) and backing vocalist, Greg Fulton whose recording credits includes albums with NW Singer-Songwriter Jill Cohn and The Jazz Police. He has performed in a variety of ensembles including Java Town Swing, Show Brazil and the Seattle Symphony. He can also be heard (barely) on various movie sound tracks and in the pit at the 5th Ave Theatre.
The most recent Lonesome Lover is Daniel Hunt, a drummer/percussionist hailing from New England, Seattle, and most recently, Phoenix. In addition to the Lonesome Lovers, Daniel spends his time playing with Swaybacks, Carrie Biell, and his solo (and oft lonesome) experimental projects. He is currently accepting donations for the purchase of a vibraphone.
Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers will be celebrating the release of "Seems So Civilized" with a CD release party in Seattle this December with a national tour to follow. Check www.carrieclark.com for tour dates and release information.
