Description
Hi,
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit. Please do listen to the songs that are posted. I plan to come back and update this Bio/description info...but for now, here's the scoop on Michael Skinner.
I have been in music for most of my life. Started learning to play the drums at the age of ten after seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show back in 1964 - very cool!! By age twelve, the local neighborhood rock band ["Resistance"] I was in was good enought to play at parties, jr. high school dances, and teen centers...and they PAID US!!!! Eventually, we ended up doing lots of high school dances, winning Battle of the Bands Contests, and playing at all kinds of teen events and outdoor shows. And then that lead us into nightclub work. This was the coolest thing, to make my living as a professional drummer and we performed non-stop all over the place.
Eventually, myself and the bass player of this band hooked up with some other musicians to pursue a long held dream to tour in England and write all our own songs. So in January of 1975, off we went to check this out for 3 months in Liverpool, England. Well...that three months turned into two great years of touring throughout Great Britain. We had the time of our life as a hard rock & roll band ["American Train"]that did pretty well. And yes.....we did get screwed bu our manager and lots of other rock and roll horror stories....but it still was a great experience. We were on the same level of gigs as AC/DC and the Pat Travers Band back then...to name just a few. Some nights you were playing in a large university to well over a thousand 'kids', to large rock halls and clubs, to some small pub where the drum set took up the whole stage. But I woudn't change anything about it. It was a blast!!!!!!!!!
Back in the States some of us continued on as a band ["Train"] and we performed throughout New England & New York.
Eventually I started my own management company and a booking agency representing lots of rock groups and other acts and had them working all over the East Coast and into Canada......but still the dream remained to learn to play the guitar and sing. Which brings us to "Pirates".
Changes in my life & some health concerns found me picking up the guitar in 1995-96 and learning to play......and still learning to this day. But....I have been fortunate to release two album releases, "TRAIN OF TEARS" & "PIRATES". Right now I am half-way through the recording of a third release to be called, "WAITIN' FOR A TRAIN".
So there you have it...a life in music contained in this 5 minute bio. For more 'stuff' please visit these websites to hear more music and get more info.
