Description
Pianist/composer Nicki Denner has been a member of the New York music community since 1999, before that she resided in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota for ten years. Nicki's musical history includes being musical director of a Puerto Rican folkloric music ensemble, an accompanist for the "Meet the Artist" program at Lincoln Center, pianist for New Jersey Tap Ensemble and Chicago City Limits, the New York based improv comedy troupe. She has performed with Sheila E., Bobby Sanabria, Harvie S. as well other jazz and salsa artists in the United States and Europe.
She also leads her own latin jazz ensemble, Jazziroco, which recorded their debut CD, "Don't Just Stand There" in 1998.She is currently working on her next recording, El Medico de Coqui, featuring Julian Llanos, former singer with Latin music legend Arsenio Rodriguez. The album is a mix of son, bolero and cha-cha-cha with a hint of latin jazz.
Along with performing, Nicki is devoted educator. As well as having a private teaching studio, she has served on the piano faculty of the Stanford University Summer Jazz Workshop and the Montclair State University Jazz Prep Summer Program.
