Description
Rain was formed about 8 years ago in NYC. Singer and songwriter John McConnell found a room full of equipment that wasnt being used and recruited some musicians and started the band. McConnell had sung in some early Portland Oregon punk bands in the late 70s and early eighties. He started out reading poetry and eventually formed Suburban Guerrillas and Soul Device, which had Sam Henry (Wipers, Napalm Beach, Morgan Grace) on drums. He was part of the scene that included the Wipers, Neo Boys, Sado-Nation and others. McConnell fell on some tough times in the 80s battling drug and alcohol addiction and homelessness. But he continued to write and learned how to play guitar.
The current line-up of Rain is John McConnell guitar and vocals, Josh Mellon guitar, Gordon Glen on bass and keyboards and Debbie Irwin drums.
Their sound is a mixture of Rock and punk and owes heavily to early punk bands as well as bands from the 60s..
Dream was recorded in the summer of 2006 at Night Owl Studios in NYC with Paul Snook as engineer. Rain produced the CD.
McConnells lyrical themes include alienation, addiction and songs about love delivered in his personal style.
Rain is proud of the CD and is looking forward to playing in the NYC area to promote the CD and eventually doing some touring.
