Description
Native American Flute music, light vocals, the HANG drum by PANArt combine on this beautiful recording played by a rising star in the flute performing and recording world. The songs blend Traditional, American Songbook, Contemporary and deeply moving Original songs. Most of the songs are solo Native American flute played in the clear, soulful, expressive style that Granger is known for. Across the Wide Missouri or Shenandoah as it is also known is an A Capella version that is moving and showcases Granger's clear, tuneful voice. A jazz instructor dubbed him 'The Human Vocal Chord' for his range and ability. His voice has been compared to "Josh Groban" and a "Transcendent Chris Isaak."
Having one awards for his production--this CD continues that commitment to the highest standards. Ornamentations, trills and tonguing are tasteful allowing the melody to shine through these traditional haunting wooden flutes. Granger is a Native of New Mexico and is of Native American, Spanish and German ancestry amongst other resilient peoples.
It was at the request of the families of Hospice patients, where he volunteers his music regularly, that Randy learned and recorded Amazing Grace, Oh Danny Boy and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. These versions are played in a beautiful, respectful and accessible way to allow them to be played at memorials and funerals.
Granger's performances have moved many listeners to tears and peace. He was a finalist at the 2006 Musical Echoes Flute Competition where he earned third. He has played at countless and successful festivals, concerts, mid size venues, The Border Book Festival, Renaissance Faires, movies premiers, fundraisers, benefits, galleries, the Zion Canyon Art and Flute Festival and has released this Cloudwalker. He is a regular at the local Farmers Market and volunteers his music at a Hospice Center and Hospital on a regularly. His music is being used in commercials and film projects. And he's been the subject of several feature articles. Listeners have described Granger's music as 'Peaceful,' 'Soothing,' 'Comforting,' and as; "We leave your CD in our CD changer and play it at least three or four times a day." -Gary G., Las Cruces, NM
Along with the solo flute music Randy shares his expressive Baritone voice on Across the Wide Missouri and Apostasy and beautiful and hopeful song reminiscent of Nordic singing. The songs Every Breath You Take by the Police and Redwood and Cedar use the Hang Steel Hand Drum by PANArt of Bern, Switzerland. This mesmerizing instrument is based on the Steel Drum, Gongs, Gamelan the Ghatam and the Steel Saw. It is played with both hands, sets in the players lap and looks like a UFO or two Woks glued together. It sounds amazing with the Native American Flutes dulcet tones. Randy plays the melodies then improvises displaying Trills, Double and Triple Tonguing, Slides, Slurs and techniques that have brought audiences to their feet at his live shows.
His live sets are filled with humor, stories, reverence, peaceful meditations and improvising on a melody given by and audience member. We hope we have captured some of that In the Moment spontaneity on this CD. Enjoy and as Randy signs his CDs; May your every breath be peaceful. "My native ancestry is from Mexico's Copper Canyon area and most likely Tarahumara, Apache, Pueblo,Kiowa or other Southwest tribes people who were at war with the U.S. Army when they permanently settled with existing cultures. My maternal great-grandfather was a 'Seer' in the Tarahumara tribe. I had my Native ancestry confirmed through a DNA test which showed a 30% heritage. Since they were not on the Dawes Rolls of U.S. tribes I cannot join one. So I honor all my Ancestors who lived, loved, worked, fought and endured before me. I think all my Ancestors meet in my Heart--and that's where the music is made." Randy
