Description
As a follow-up to the debut "TWILIGHT BLUE EXCURSION" CD, Thomas Ventiquattro II (Tom 24) presents "DEAR LUCY," and shares the billing with his incredibly talented producer and friend, Daniel Wills. Tom 24 & Dan Wills perform 15 light rock, easy-listening and folk pop numbers, featuring Tom 24 on vocals and guitars, and Dan Wills on bass, drums and keys (Dan also sings bass vocals on the cut, "DEAR LUCY"). War of 1812 history enthusiasts will enjoy the title track, "DEAR LUCY." Tom 24 penned this song when he became inspired after reading about the Battle of Plattsburgh (NY). Tom was intrigued with the story describing this horrific naval battle. On September 11, 1814, American ships under the command of Commodore Thomas Macdonough, forced the surrender of a mighty British fleet in Plattsburgh Bay on Lake Champlain. Tom states, "Few Americans realize that this victory was the true turning point for preserving American freedoms, effectively ending the War of 1812." "DEAR LUCY" is a poignant ballad, taking the form of an imaginary love letter from Commodore Macdonough to his wife, Lucy, immediately after the victory on Lake Champlain. The remaining 14 tracks give listeners a broad sampling of Tom's versatile writing and performing styles...from the light rocking and Bee Gee-ish "ANNIVERSARY" to the country/folk flavorings on "AUGUST RAIN." "WHERE LIFE IS WARM" mixes shades of the lush harmony stylings made popular by Bread and America in the early 1970s. Midway through this lineup, an element of comic relief is provided by the bouncy "CHEESE AND CRACKERS." Dan Wills, as always, works his magic via production at his Slab City Studio in Malone, NY. Post-production mastering by Thunder Roads Recording Studio (Norfolk, NY) ensures a smoothly warm and crisp treat for the ears. This album is dedicated to the memory of the late Julie Margaret Wahl St. Louis, a raving fan of the Slab City Studio music project. Julie's kind words of encouragement will forever be an inspiration for Tom and Dan...and for all who were lucky enough to have been touched by her friendship.
