Description
Mezzo-soprano Lainie Diamonds vibrant tone and expressive acting brings to life a wide variety of roles in opera as well as interpretations as a soloist of sacred oratorio, orchestral repertoire and contemporary music.
After graduating from Loyola University New Orleans and relocating to New York City, Ms. Diamond made her Lincoln Center debut with The American Symphony Orchestra as Bellangre in Ariane et Barbe-bleue, with Leon Botstein conducting. Her recent performance of John Rutters Feel The Spirit with The Connecticut Master Chorale was praised for the warm and poignant quality of the singing of these emotional words by an unaccompanied Diamond... (Danbury News-Times). Her voice was featured in composer Chris Beckers score for choreographer Rachel Cohens dance theater work If The Shoe Fits. John Rockwell included If The Shoe Fits in his NY Times list of the top 10 dance performances of '05. In December 2005, Ms. Diamond was honored to sing as Mezzo-Soprano soloist in Handels Messiah with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the first classical music performance in New Orleans since hurricane Katrina.
She made her New Orleans Opera debut in Werther, and sang Hansel in Hansel and Gretel with The MetroPelican Opera of The New Orleans Opera, of which The Gretna Picayune wrote the performancehad the audience enthralled. She sang Flora in the world premiere of Pretty Baby under the director/designer John Pascoe. Off-Broadway, she sang the role of Shifrah in Moses, My Love at The Judith Anderson Theatre. Other leading roles include Julie in Show Boat, Lucy Brown, and The Witch in Into The Woods, for which she garnered a New Orleans Theatre Star award and a Storer Boone Theatre Award best-supporting actress nomination. Her opera roles include Cherubino, Hansel, and Dorabella. Future roles in preparation include Carmen, Nicklausse, Sibel, and Stphano.
Ms. Diamond's recent performances as soloist include the Mozart Requiem and Vesperae solennes de Confessore with the Choral Society of Pensacola; Bach Magnificat, Mendelssohns Elijah, and appearances at St. Patricks Cathedral, NYC. Among her upcoming performances as soloist include Glenn McClures new work St. Francis in the Americas, a Caribbean Mass, with the Connecticut Master Chorale. Her voice is featured singing Gounod's 'O ma lyre immortelle' in the upcoming film "The Legend of Johnny Roebling".
